Allergic diseases have observed a global rise during the past decade,affecting 15-20% of the society in the developed world. They cause discomfort for the patients and impose huge therapeutic costs on the health systems both directly and indirectly.On the other hand,with the clinical and laboratory advances made in the diagnosis of such diseases,the identification of patients with allergies has increased,resulting in reduced related complications due to prompt therapeutic interventions. Therefore,education and exchange of ideas in the field of allergy seem quite essential in order to provide better and more effective services for the patients.The Allergy Research Center affiliated to Mashhad University of Medical Sciences (MUMS) was approved by the Research Council of MUMS in 2011 and received the principal agreement permission from the Ministry of Health in 2012. One of the main missions of this research center has been extensive research on asthma,allergy and related diseases besides paying attention to their treatment. We have been able to provide diagnostic and therapeutic services for the patients along with providing a desirable educational environment for the subspecialist assistants in the field of allergy,studying in MUMS.Regarding the highly spiritual position of Mashhad city in Iran and considering the various activities of our research center,we decided to hold the third international congress on “Asthma,Allergy and Immunology” and the first symposium on “Food and Drug Allergy” in our city.In this congress in the presence of distinguished professors in the fields of Immunology,Allergy,Pulmonology,Nutrition and Gastroenterology,we will have a full review on the most recent data in the field of allergy and discuss the most recent scientific findings and developments,therapeutic modalities and preventive measures available. Furthermore,in the call for papers the 12 best papers related to the congress topics will be orally presented during the congress. Several other papers selected based on the number of submissions to the congress,will be presented as Posters. On the sidelines of the congress,five workshops will be held in line with the congress objectives.On the final congress day two family workshops will be held by the attending delegates for patients suffering from asthma and food allergy based on programmed invitation; so that in addition to updating the knowledge of our colleagues in this respect,families involved will be further trained regarding disease control.We also aim at preparing the ground for exchanging the most recent information and developments along with encouraging collaboration in the fields of research,education and health services with other universities inside Iran and abroad.All such activities will be focused on solving the health issues related to the two major areas of allergy and immunology in our region. By holding educational workshops for the attending delegates we aim at increasing their skills in clinical and laboratory diagnosis and treatment of patients affected by allergy and primary immunodeficiency.
